Fullerton House Church - August 18th

We had a smaller group tonight with some folks getting ready for tomorrow's JEMS' softball tournament or other conflicts.

Our food theme tonight was Chinese (I brought Korean BBQ short ribs). Fiona, our faithful church administrator (just back from NYC) brought copies of our new book "How People Grow" by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend.

Fiona also had copies of our cool new church directory! Newly updated with birthdays and all! Brice led worship. Mike (substituting for Pastor Kev) hosted the evening and introduced testimonies from our very own Daniel and Jessica; very powerful and personal sharing!!

Evening ended with smaller prayer groups.

Food worth waiting for ?

My bro' wanted me to start a Food Blog (I guess I do post enough entries about food, huh?) but this will have to do since I already have four blog going at the same time including this one.

My question of the day is, "Is there food that you're willing to wait for?" If you live in LA area, the answer is probably YES!

Gamera-San invited me to join him and his friends for an evening at Mrs Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant (this is the original reason why Knott's Berry Farm Theme park was started; so that the folks waiting in line for the famous chicken dinners, would have something else to do). I've been to Knott's for chicken dinners on many occasions but tonight was alittle different.

When we got there, the parking was maxing out. Normally, folks just going to the restaurant (as oppose to the Knott's Theme Park) just have to park in the free 3 hour lots. But we took a wrong turn and ended up in the theme park parking ($9)! Then after walking all the walk thru the big parking lot toward the restaurant; we were stunned to see the line going in wrapped all the way around the side of the building! As it turned out, the wait for us was about an hour and a half!

We were finally seated about 7:34 pm. We were excited! The service was pretty good and was great! We had to be careful not to fill up on the basket of hot biscuits n' butter/Knott's jams! I guess I could have ordered something that wasn't chicken but heck, you don't' come to Mrs Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant and order the BBQ ribs (although, I'm curious now).

We also found out that MKCDR serves beer too! I guess that's fairly recent 'cause I never knew that. Anyways, it wasn't cheap but we were all happy with our choices! Thanks Gamera-San for treating us all!!

A Full Moon and a boba

I had to run an errand this evening and noticed that it was a full moon. I love full moon; although I've heard that it makes the tide rises, the werewolves come out as well as a bunch a crazy people! The romantic side of me keep hoping for those moments with that special someone (although a nice sun setting over the Pacific Ocean works just as well).

I know that sometimes a full moon can seem kinda of creepy too. Especially if you're out fishing, hiking or hunting in the countryside (the imagination takes over). And there is the harvesting or hunting moon were the moonlight is especially bright!

Tonight is just an ordinary moon. I'm likely to see most of it tomorrow while I'm out "twilight golfing". So I guess that would be a "golfing moon".

A Full Moon tonight- can you see the "Rabbit pounding Mochee" as my Japanese friends would say or do you see the "Man in the Moon"?

To me this shot looks like the "Ever-ready Bunny" with his drum is on the Moon.

Stop by the local Boba Loca shop on my way home. Those guys were so fast, I barely ordered my drink before they put it out in front of me.

I heard that the original "Boba" (tapicoa balls / iced coffee) drinks were imported from Taiwan about 7 - 8 years ago. I saw them in mainland China in 2004.

The amazing sealed lids!

The cool thing about the "sealed" lids that Boba Loca and other Asian coffeehouse uses, is that you can toss them in your car or carry a bunch of them in a bag with out worrying about them leaking (What a brilliant idea! Makes you wonder why don't Starbuck uses this techology for their frozen drinks). And when you're ready to drink them, you just pop a sharpen straw into the top and start enjoying! I had heard some of my non-Asian friends complain about getting used to sipping and crewing (the tapioca balls) at the same time. I know it was weird at first for me too! I've seen some places have the micro tapioca balls (about the size of BB's). Interesting.

Oh, well ... a full moon and a belly full of iced coffee and boba!

p.s.
Sorry, I was having a "Seinfield" inspired moment ... lot of writing about "nothing" at all, ha ha!

p.s.(s)
"Shout out" to Carey, Kim, Patti and the kids at Orlando's Disneyworld! See you on Saturday!

Also a "shout out" to Miss Fifi (visiting her folks in NYC)! Hope you're having a great time in the "Big Apple"! See you back in LA soon enough!

Anaheim Lake gets Mt. Lassen
catfish plant for Thursday opener

Anaheim Lake will open this Thursday, August 3, and the lake will be heavily stocked with catfish, including trophy cats from the famous Mt. Lassen hatchery that supplies the trophy rainbows planted each winter at Santa Ana River Lake. It will also get as many fish as it's possible to salvage from SARL, including a lot of bass, crappie, and bluegill.

Anaheim only opens to fishing when SARL is closed, and this water is ideal for anglers, with lots of grassy banks, more shade trees, and three islands in the lake, which makes it ideal for both shore and boat anglers. The maintenance work at SARL might not be done before trout season, so Anaheim Lake might get its first trout plants since 1983.

SARL closed July 23 for routine maintenance, which includes draining and cleaning, by the Orange County Water District. The SARL staff hopes to seine as many of the leftover catfish, bass, crappie, and bluegill as possible and transfer then into Anaheim this week and the next couple of weeks.

Anaheim Lake will be open seven days a week. Anglers can purchase a day fishing pass that is valid from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., while an evening pass is valid from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Each of these passes costs $20, and it has a five-fish limit. Special 24-hour passes available every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights cost $45 and have a 15-fish limit. Anglers are allowed on the lake from 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday or Saturday night to 4 p.m. the following day on these special 24-hour passes. Anglers can also bring their wife and up to three kids 12 and under to help them fill the 15-fish stringer for no extra fee. Camping is also free.

For more information, call (714) 996-3508 or log on to the lake's web site at www.fishinglakes.com.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ANAHEIM LAKE is only about ½ mile from Santa Ana River Lakes. Take the Tustin off ramp, just like going to Santa Ana River Lakes, but go two more streets, North past La Palma, to Miraloma Avenue, turn left on Miraloma to the gate entrance of Anaheim Lake.
