Current Series: The Call to Discipleship

Message: WHAT IS A DISCIPLE?

Synopsis: To be a disciple is to be an apprentice, a student, a learner. The call to follow Jesus is a call to discipleship. To state the obvious, but not always practiced, this learning is in relationship to Jesus. It is to center our lives around a living relationship with Christ as Lord in which we grow to be like him. As Mark shows us, being a student of Jesus requires "being with him" and "doing what he does." It is a total commitment to live our lives with Jesus and at his direction.

da dreaded birthday

(Pre-birthday) My work cubicle got trashed with birthday decorations on Friday. We had a nice luncheon at BJ Brewery!

oh great, MORE Calories for my birthday!

Got to burn off those calories on Saturday with a couple guys from the office. We played 9 holes in Pico Rivera in between the rain storms. I actually shot my age (which was not good for this course)!

Do I look disappointed, naw ... just left my lucky golf hat in the car!

Speaking of Lucky, my other friends and I ended up going to a trendy bowling alley/restaurant for dinner instead of Dave and Buster's in the Block in Orange. The scenery at "Lucky Strike" was something. Had a nice fudge malt at Johnny Rockets'.

It was a nice way to ease into another birthday!

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes posted in Facebook and on my Xanga site!

Current Series: The Call to Discipleship

Message: The Call for Everything

Synopsis: The call to discipleship is total. There are no "half"christians, and there are no easy answers. But there is life and hopeand love! Jesus places a high call on our lives to help us understandthe nature of discipleship. He uses the provocative imagery ofsurrender: surrender in the face of sure defeat to ensure true life. We will look at Luke 14 and the call to Give Jesus everything.

Musical tonight

Went to see Allison & Charis in the local musical production of "Joseph" last night.

Rising Star Allison and one of her fans, Em.

Charis hears Broadway calling her!

A bunch of folks from Epic came out to cheer on the gals!

It was a fun evening for all. Mark wanted to ride on the "camel" but unfortunately it was available for him. Maybe next time, Mark.

Message: A Different Kind of Community - Part II
Synopsis: Some pastoral reflections on some next steps that will help us grow as a different kind of community this year. Will focus talk around the need for CONSISTENT COMMITMENT. What got us here was greater relational investment, and what will continue to help us grow is a more consistent investment in each other.

Spoke on three areas in particular: 1) Being on time as a practice of hospitality and honoring each other 2) giving (pass the plate in 2008!), and 3) participation in house churches.

Current Series: Kick Off!

Synopsis: It's a new year and time to roll out the plan! We are looking at Joshua 24 to see how God ultinmately resolves all the questions of identity for the Isrealites after Moses. We will consider who God is calling us to be, how to get there, and what is required of each of us to partake in the promised land!
