Tamale Party for New Year's Eve

Here's our hostess mixing the masa (corn dough) with broth and giving directions to a guest.

DB is whipping up the masa.

Sandee and crew are assembling the first batch of beef tamales (yum)!

Kim and Allison are the Mother-daughter tamale making team!

Melanie and Dorene assembling a batch of chicken tamales.

Sandee put out these nice tamale assembling instructions for us.

Here's one of the Tamale Steamers that we used tonight.

Cheese, chicken, masa, and corn husk (far left) are the essential elements of tasty tamales!

Ingrid arrives just in time to help make some yummy tamales!

Sandee prepares to steam the first batch of beef tamales (cooking time is about 55 minutes).

Brice pulls out the "hot" tamales!

Freshly steamed yummy tamales!!
Thanks Sandee and Brice for all your hard work and preparation in making tonight a very enjoyable and delicious New Year Eve!!

On the farm on Christmas Eve

Choices, choices ... what should I do?

Shoot some golf balls or Bambi?

Unfortunately, all I shot were the golf balls (and into a lake at that)!

Halfway point of my visit to Mississippi

scenes from a small town ...

DB meeting the Mayor and her husband.

Ford talking with Auntie Margaret and posing with Grandpa Howard.

Hmmmm it seems TIME can move both slow and fast at the same time (not to be confusing). I flew in last Sunday so it's almost a week since I've been home. Haven't done a whole lot. Haven't hunted for anything (except for that perfect Christmas present for my nephew) and haven't fished for anything (except for funny videos on "YouTube") so I'm not sure I accomplished very much. I bonded with my nephew Ford, who's almost two now. He's now running around and very much into big trucks.

Everyone else at home seemed to be doing well and adjusting to the new business and such. Coming home is always both familar and different at the same time. It's been both gloomy and sunny, fair and rainy here.

We have a couple days off from the family business to enjoy the outdoors when it's not too wet or cold. Hopefully, can go hit a few balls, catch a couple basses and maybe take a shot at a nice buck. It's been a relaxing visit so far (no thoughts of backorders, deadlines and bad suppliers).

Mid-Season TV Rants

I've been too busy to write about all the TV that I've been watching until now. Let start with a few of my favs ...

Season 6 cast of "24"

Saw a recent trailer of season 6 of "24" (Fox Mondays) which will open two nights starting Sunday, January 14th and continue on it's regular night on Monday the 15th. Apparently, Jack Bauer get brought back to America by the Chinese (I'm only guessing this from the aired trailer that Fox Network put out).

Cast of "BSG"

"Battlestar Galactica" (SciFi Network Fridays)- Season 3 Mid Season Finale episode, "Eye of Jupiter". I'm not sure I like this cliffhanger but I'm not going to spoil it for those of you who have caught it yet. It was good and it left you hanging (sort of like the "Pegasus" episode last December). It's nice to see characters grow and develop (and in one case ... die ... sob!). The rumor was that Corporate Parent of SciFi Network was going to move BSG to NBC but that hasn't happen yet. What did happen was that SciFi move BSG to Sunday nights start with part two of "The Eye of Jupiter" on January 21st.

"Doctor Who" (also on SciFi Network) is killing off a major character this Friday (if you follow that) in their season finale. I guess they do that from time to time to keep the show fresh.

Cast of "Heroes"
"Heroes" (NBC Mondays), the wildly popular NBC show also just had their mid-season finale. We learned alot about the characters, including the Evil Sylar, Eden and the Haitian guy. I didn't want to watch it but after hearing Ed Ie describe it, I started tuning in. It's such a great show! Where else can a "nerdy Asian" guy be one of the most beloved and coolest heroes (and is named "Hiro") too!! So what is it with these shows since "24" that they have to start killing off main characters like there's no tomorrow!

Cast of "Daybreak"

Well speaking of no tomorrow, "Daybreak" (ABC Wednesday) was supposed to fill in the time slot vacated by "Lost"(on break for 13 weeks). Unfortunately, "Criminal Minds" killed it. "DB" had a really interesting plot ... sort of like "24" meets "Groundhog Day"! Tay Diggs is such a great actor but the Network had no guts and just pulled from the schedule. I guess we'll have to watch the rest of the 5 - 6 episodes (for the conclusion) either on-line (like CBS did for "Smiths") or on one of the ABC cable networks.

Moon Bloodgood (who played Rita Shelton, the Tay Diggs character's girl friend LUCKY DOG!!) is another reason I'll be missing "Daybreak" ... I just read that she's half Korean!!

Speaking of, "Criminal Minds" (CBS Wednesdays) is beating the snot outta of all the other shows on Wednesday nights at 9pm (PST). So much so, that Chicken-sh** ABC rescheduled "Lost" to the 10pm (PST) hour when it comes back in February. I like "Criminal Mind" which is basically a team of elite FBI Profilers (Behavorial Unit) who go out and try to catch serial killers / rapists, etc ....

"NCIS" (CBS Tuesdays) hasn't been as enjoyable to watch this season as it has the past two but it was the #1 rated show last week! Tony gets a new secret girlfriend and special assignment from the director herself, Gibbs is back from his Mexican retirement and self imposed exile, and Ziva is kinda of jealous of Tony's off screen activities.

"Smallville" (CW Thursdays) Lana is with Lex (and prego!)and Lois Lane is with Oliver (aka the Green Arrow), the Martian Manhunter made a guest appearance, Chloe is with Jimmy Olsen at the Daily Planet, Martha is with Lionel Luther and Clark is thinking about his future as a superhero ... Whew!

Season 4 Cast of "The OC"

"The OC" (Fox Thursday) still haven't watch this season (forgot to record the first episode and said "forget it") ... heard that Summer got booted out of her college for setting free lab rabbits, Ryan took up cage fighting (Wow, does Newport Beach have cage fighting? Must be nearby Santa Ana or Costa Mesa.) to get over Marissa Cooper's untimely death. Heard that Ryan is sharing lip time with Taylor Townsend (one of Marissa's rivals). I guess there's no "Chrismukkah" (don't ask) this year!

Season 3 Cast of "GA"

Meanwhile at Seattle Grace Hospital, "Grey's Anatomy" (ABC Thursday) is still ramping up the hormones. Can't wait to see the next new episode. Spoiler-wise someone is getting married and someone is gonna have wee little one (not necessarily the same someones).

"Veronica Mars" (CW Tuesdays) had a really good story arc but the bosses at the new CW Network are kinda of nervious and have only awarded "VM" a few more episodes shy of a full season. I've been sort of closet fan of "VM" (aka the new "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") for a couple years now but had to choose between this show and "Lost" so there it goes. But now on a new night I finally can watch it (or record it without feeling cheated on my other shows).

I eagerly await the mid-season return of "Jericho", the small Kansas town isolated from the rest of the world after nuclear terrorist took out much of the US seats of power (but NYC managed to survived). "Jericho" will return on CBS on Wednesday starting on February 21st.

Beautiful Ashley Scott (from "Birds of Prey", "Dark Angel", and the movie "Walking Tall") is another great reason to tune into "Jericho"!

Also, just saw the telenovela series finale of "Rebelde" on Friday before I went on holiday break. I think I ruined my expectation by watching all of the YouTube Clips that all the Mexican fan had posted from six months earlier. It was still good to watch all of the "Happy Ending" that these type show usually have (everyone ended up with their "true love" and the bad guys/gals got what they deserve). I heard that the primary cast (or the leads) who are also members of the pop group, "RBD" are returning to do a Sitcom similar to "Friends" thats NOT based on "Rebelde" but rather a fictious version of the real life band members. According to today's press release this show will be call "RBD - Family" and will be ready to by this summer.

What a lucky deer!!

ha ha ... I can totally related to this poor hunter's experience! Apparently, this guy's scope is off since he keeps shooting in the same spot just left of the deer front chest! Hopefully I won't have this problem!

Christmas Office Party in LA

Our department Christmas luncheon

Look at those smiling hungry people!

Cheryl gets yet another gift (don't think anyone taking this one away).

The ladies all score new PURPLE company shirts, Travis scored big time with his White Elephant prizes!

Nope, no drunken dances with lampshades on my head but "a nice pat on the back, good job" Mexican Luncheon that our managers all pitched in for all of us.

We had a nice White Elephant gift exchange as well, does any one need a bottle of "Old Spice" ?!
