Slow day at the lake

We took the day off from restaurant today and went fishing. My bro, sister in law and mom all caught fish (DB got skunked and went target shooting instead). My bro' caught a 3 1/2 largemouth bass on a lure. We've been fishing a new fishing hole near our regular fishing pond. Meanwhile, my sis' in law saw a couple deers across by Big Sand Creek; unfortunately, DB left the Deer Gun at home today. = (

Oh,well another beautiful warm Mississippi day with family on the lake. What more can one ask for?

Visit to Viking Cooking Store & Alluvian

One of the biggest new industries in my hometown is the Viking Range Company. They've done so well recently that they've redone an old landmark downtown hotel into The Alluvian and spawned all these other mini business such as a cooking school and a corporate retail store. DB went to check out the Viking & Alluvian logo stuff today.

MSN's top 10 best TV of 2005: BSG

(DB saw this on MSN.com today)

On MSN's top ten shows of 2005 List: Battlestar Galactica

‘Galactica’ is out of this worldWhy does the new “Battlestar Galactica” (Fridays, returning in 2006, SciFi) work so extraordinarily well? Because it’s more than the sum of its parts: more Beckett than sci-fi, and far more than just a great reconsideration of the beloved (but cheesy) ‘70s original. Quite simply, there’s nothing like it on TV. That said, the revisions are brilliant. Fans balked when Starbuck was recast as a woman (Katee Sackhoff, with her sexy mix of swagger and lost-little-girl), but “Galactica” works far better with the women in charge — the good (Mary McDonnell’s President Roslin), the bad (Tricia Helfer’s Number Six) and the conflicted (Grace Park’s Boomer, a Cylon with a heart of gold). That the robotic Cylons look human and harbor far more piety than their flesh-and-blood counterparts allows the show to adopt a “Twilight Zone”-like philosophical edge.

There’s more. Ron Moore and writers craft flawed characters and terse dialogue that give Aaron Sorkin (“West Wing”) a run for his money. The humans-hunting-for-home theme resonates with its chilling post-9/11 sensibility – as does the endless military-civilian tension, which never descends into the obvious. Tack on a flawless cast (Edward James Olmos’ Adama has a cranky gravitas that eclipses Lorne Greene’s original, I must admit), quietly dazzling special effects and a deliberately outmoded production design — right down to those old-fashioned phone handsets—and you have the makings of a show almost too good for television. Thank the gods someone had the guts to make “Galactica” fly again. —Jon BonnĂ©

Hunting vs Fishing

Well so far DB has seen about 8 - 10 deers (at night or really far off), a few ducks, and an armadilla (an armadilla is basically a possum in a can). So hunting has been very slow. Nothing worth shooting (and eating). Fishing is alot easier and you don't need to make lot noise with firearms and if you change your mind then you can put the fish back into the water. Maybe I should stick to fishing for the rest of my vacation at home.

Most of the animal pixs were from online. The only animal photo I took of the amadilla I saw close up was like finding "Waldo" in the bushes!

Bass fishing

Actually DB was looking for Bambi but none was to be found ... Billy Bass was the only game in town. The rest of family did pretty good catching crappies (white perch) and some largemouth basses.

Deer Hunting on Christmas Day

DB was so busy taking pictures of himself hunting that he almost didn't see the deers running around behind him. Fortunately for the deers, DB was upwind of them and they were able to smell him and ran off.

DB did see tracks and fresh deer droppings.

Better luck next time.

Christmas Loot

DB got some loot for Christmas including a pair of NASCAR slippers, and cooking apparel from Viking Corp. My little nephew racked up too!! What's in your Santa Sack?

Must See TV List

I guess one advantage to not having a real social life is that I have alot of time for television. As you may have already gleamed from my blog site, Delta Boy is a big fan of "Battlestar Galactica", "Lost", and "Smallville". DB also has on his DVD recorder and HD DVR set for "Gray's Anatomy", "24", "Veronica Mars", and "Surface".

What's on your "Must See TV" list?
