Mid-Season TV Rants

I've been too busy to write about all the TV that I've been watching until now. Let start with a few of my favs ...

Season 6 cast of "24"

Saw a recent trailer of season 6 of "24" (Fox Mondays) which will open two nights starting Sunday, January 14th and continue on it's regular night on Monday the 15th. Apparently, Jack Bauer get brought back to America by the Chinese (I'm only guessing this from the aired trailer that Fox Network put out).

Cast of "BSG"

"Battlestar Galactica" (SciFi Network Fridays)- Season 3 Mid Season Finale episode, "Eye of Jupiter". I'm not sure I like this cliffhanger but I'm not going to spoil it for those of you who have caught it yet. It was good and it left you hanging (sort of like the "Pegasus" episode last December). It's nice to see characters grow and develop (and in one case ... die ... sob!). The rumor was that Corporate Parent of SciFi Network was going to move BSG to NBC but that hasn't happen yet. What did happen was that SciFi move BSG to Sunday nights start with part two of "The Eye of Jupiter" on January 21st.

"Doctor Who" (also on SciFi Network) is killing off a major character this Friday (if you follow that) in their season finale. I guess they do that from time to time to keep the show fresh.

Cast of "Heroes"
"Heroes" (NBC Mondays), the wildly popular NBC show also just had their mid-season finale. We learned alot about the characters, including the Evil Sylar, Eden and the Haitian guy. I didn't want to watch it but after hearing Ed Ie describe it, I started tuning in. It's such a great show! Where else can a "nerdy Asian" guy be one of the most beloved and coolest heroes (and is named "Hiro") too!! So what is it with these shows since "24" that they have to start killing off main characters like there's no tomorrow!

Cast of "Daybreak"

Well speaking of no tomorrow, "Daybreak" (ABC Wednesday) was supposed to fill in the time slot vacated by "Lost"(on break for 13 weeks). Unfortunately, "Criminal Minds" killed it. "DB" had a really interesting plot ... sort of like "24" meets "Groundhog Day"! Tay Diggs is such a great actor but the Network had no guts and just pulled from the schedule. I guess we'll have to watch the rest of the 5 - 6 episodes (for the conclusion) either on-line (like CBS did for "Smiths") or on one of the ABC cable networks.

Moon Bloodgood (who played Rita Shelton, the Tay Diggs character's girl friend LUCKY DOG!!) is another reason I'll be missing "Daybreak" ... I just read that she's half Korean!!

Speaking of, "Criminal Minds" (CBS Wednesdays) is beating the snot outta of all the other shows on Wednesday nights at 9pm (PST). So much so, that Chicken-sh** ABC rescheduled "Lost" to the 10pm (PST) hour when it comes back in February. I like "Criminal Mind" which is basically a team of elite FBI Profilers (Behavorial Unit) who go out and try to catch serial killers / rapists, etc ....

"NCIS" (CBS Tuesdays) hasn't been as enjoyable to watch this season as it has the past two but it was the #1 rated show last week! Tony gets a new secret girlfriend and special assignment from the director herself, Gibbs is back from his Mexican retirement and self imposed exile, and Ziva is kinda of jealous of Tony's off screen activities.

"Smallville" (CW Thursdays) Lana is with Lex (and prego!)and Lois Lane is with Oliver (aka the Green Arrow), the Martian Manhunter made a guest appearance, Chloe is with Jimmy Olsen at the Daily Planet, Martha is with Lionel Luther and Clark is thinking about his future as a superhero ... Whew!

Season 4 Cast of "The OC"

"The OC" (Fox Thursday) still haven't watch this season (forgot to record the first episode and said "forget it") ... heard that Summer got booted out of her college for setting free lab rabbits, Ryan took up cage fighting (Wow, does Newport Beach have cage fighting? Must be nearby Santa Ana or Costa Mesa.) to get over Marissa Cooper's untimely death. Heard that Ryan is sharing lip time with Taylor Townsend (one of Marissa's rivals). I guess there's no "Chrismukkah" (don't ask) this year!

Season 3 Cast of "GA"

Meanwhile at Seattle Grace Hospital, "Grey's Anatomy" (ABC Thursday) is still ramping up the hormones. Can't wait to see the next new episode. Spoiler-wise someone is getting married and someone is gonna have wee little one (not necessarily the same someones).

"Veronica Mars" (CW Tuesdays) had a really good story arc but the bosses at the new CW Network are kinda of nervious and have only awarded "VM" a few more episodes shy of a full season. I've been sort of closet fan of "VM" (aka the new "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") for a couple years now but had to choose between this show and "Lost" so there it goes. But now on a new night I finally can watch it (or record it without feeling cheated on my other shows).

I eagerly await the mid-season return of "Jericho", the small Kansas town isolated from the rest of the world after nuclear terrorist took out much of the US seats of power (but NYC managed to survived). "Jericho" will return on CBS on Wednesday starting on February 21st.

Beautiful Ashley Scott (from "Birds of Prey", "Dark Angel", and the movie "Walking Tall") is another great reason to tune into "Jericho"!

Also, just saw the telenovela series finale of "Rebelde" on Friday before I went on holiday break. I think I ruined my expectation by watching all of the YouTube Clips that all the Mexican fan had posted from six months earlier. It was still good to watch all of the "Happy Ending" that these type show usually have (everyone ended up with their "true love" and the bad guys/gals got what they deserve). I heard that the primary cast (or the leads) who are also members of the pop group, "RBD" are returning to do a Sitcom similar to "Friends" thats NOT based on "Rebelde" but rather a fictious version of the real life band members. According to today's press release this show will be call "RBD - Family" and will be ready to by this summer.

What a lucky deer!!

ha ha ... I can totally related to this poor hunter's experience! Apparently, this guy's scope is off since he keeps shooting in the same spot just left of the deer front chest! Hopefully I won't have this problem!

Christmas Office Party in LA

Our department Christmas luncheon

Look at those smiling hungry people!

Cheryl gets yet another gift (don't think anyone taking this one away).

The ladies all score new PURPLE company shirts, Travis scored big time with his White Elephant prizes!

Nope, no drunken dances with lampshades on my head but "a nice pat on the back, good job" Mexican Luncheon that our managers all pitched in for all of us.

We had a nice White Elephant gift exchange as well, does any one need a bottle of "Old Spice" ?!

House Church - December 15th

Well, I finally made it to the last house church meeting of the year which was our Christmas dinner / White Elephant Gift Exchange.

Pastor Kevin was gracious enough to open up his home (currently undergoing remodeling) because our regular host family, the Hunts were under the weather this week.

Dorene and Garret busy carving up the awesome deep fried turkeys that Clarence made SOLO (awesome !!... thanks SP for the correction, I never should have doubted AMAZING CLARENCE's cooking abilities).

Peter watches as Becky expertly slices Mister Turkey! Luis & Soo also brought a yummy Honey-Baked Ham!!

Many happy faces gathered around the "kiddy" table.

Anticipation is high for the White Elephant gift exchange.

Tim shows off his newest hatwear that he swapped from Miss Veggie (Ingrid); kinda of makes him alittle devilish handsome, don't you think?!

Jessica is amazed by the visions she received thru the special Christmas lens!

I had to leave shortly afterwards (to pack for home) but I heard Miss VEGGIE made some awesome Turkey Jook (rice porridge) later that evening!

Busy Saturday

Got up early hoping to knock some things off my to do list before next week. Didn't get very far ... I went to check out the local dim sum restaurant (to see if I can order stuff to take back to Mississippi next week). I ended up at Ten Ten Seafood in Anaheim (The people who run Ten Ten Seafood are in laws to my Dad's army buddy but then they don't know me so no discount). Bought brunch stuff for me and my roomie and pre-order stuff for pick up next week (yum yum).

On my way back home, my coworker & golfing buddy Rodney called to see if I was interested in doing twilight golfing today .... well so much for shopping. I went home, had my "dim sum" lunch with my roomie and then head out for some golf.

We ended going to three different courses (Dad Miller's, Fullerton GC, and then Brea GC) before we could actually play. It was probably not the best golf we ever played but it was pretty fun! I shot a 52/19 on the 9 hole and par'ed the 9th.

Just got back from my coworker's Christmas party tonight in Whittier. It was great turnout tonight too bad about the rain later in the evening. I was hoping get out early enough to get some Christmas shopping done (haven't done any yet) and I'm leaving town next Sunday!!

Night shot from the Patio

Hillside view of Whittier and beyond

FYI .... Mid-season finale for BSG (Spoiler Link)

Back to Dixieland (counting down)

oooh, nine days to go (to do all my work / holiday stuff in LA) before flying back to Mississippi for Christmas (13 days).

Maybe, I'll go fishing if it's not too cold or go gunning for BAMBI (bam bam!!)! Perhaps, I should bring my clubs and hit some balls into the woods?!

TGIF

YEP! Thank GOD it's Friday!!

What a crazy / hectic week I've had following Thanksgiving!

Worked on Monday then had three days participating in our judicial system (aka "Jury Duty"). That was a good experience. Met a lot of interesting people, the court that I got assigned to had a really cool judge and bailiff. I have to really say that OC really made this a jury friendly experience (compared to LA County).

Orange County Courthouse in Santa Ana / DB & the Honorable Judge Glass

Unfortunately, I started to come down with something at the start of the week so being sick and on jury duty wasn't always fun expecially when it just started to get really windy and cold (down into the 40's for you NON-Southern Californians reading this). Dang jury parking garage was two long blocks away! That and the fact that RUSH HOUR commute to downtown Santa Ana was pretty harsh! Ugh!!!

I felt really bad for the plantiff in this "Slip n Fall" civil case against a local furniture company. It was implied that she was really injured in the incident but 11 out of 12 of us didn't think her lawyer proved that it was the store's fault.

Well it's back to work now! I came into the office at 4:30 on Wednesday after my jury got off early. Lots of email to review!

We getting really short handed now, two more people are leaving our office. One of them's last day is today. Atleast I'll get to say "bye" in person.

On a brighter note, with a little pressure from my brother Herbert ... I finally found and booked my flight back to Mississippi. I'll be leaving on LA on Sunday, December 17th and returning on Saturday the 29th I think. It'll be great to see "Mi Familar".

Man! I haven't even thought about Christmas gift shopping this year. Instead of Christmas cards, maybe I'll just post a Christmas Greeting on my two blogs ...

Well, gotta get ready for work today!
