Hollywood comes to the Mississippi Delta

After Delta Boy moved to LA, a little movie called "Mississippi Masala" was filmed in and around DB's hometown of Greenwood. You might have caught this film on cable on BET and on WE network. "Mississippi Masala" starred future Academy Award two time winner, Denzel Washington. If you look carefully at the screen shots, you might even see DB's Dad as an extra in the background. A couple scenes were shot at my family's restaurant (Ho Sai Gai). Check out the photos. Oh, incidentally I have a copy of the dvd if you wanna borrow it.

Once upon a time (when there was a wee DB)

Yup, DB was a handful when he was little especially after he got his first "Shootin' Iron"

Toisan-land (Where DB's Family is from)

Downtown Chonglou, Toisan County (Guangzhou aka Canton, China) where DB's Dad grew up and went to school in the 1940's. Dad returned "home" after 50 plus years away.

Down from the land of Cotton (Dixieland)

This is real cotton from the Mississippi River Delta where it was once called "King Cotton"; the cash crop of the South.

Cotton is one of the three big products of this region with the other two being Soybean and Catfish farming. Mississippi Cotton is known for it long staples (fibers) as opposed to the shorter staples cotton of California and other regions.

Food, Glorious Food!

Speaking of Thanksgiving, what are some of your favorite foods? As a Southern transplant to Los Angeles, I'm always on the lookout for great Southern Style dishes such as this plate of tri-tips from Lucille's Smokehouse. Pictured are some other meat dishes too!! More to follow.

Turkey Day is Coming

Thank goodness for Thanksgiving! What are some of the things you're most thankful for?!

Delta Boy wants to know!?
