TITLE: MY BOOK: Our Favorite Scripture Passages
TEXT: Jeremiah 7
Jeremiah 7 is a brusque passage that challenges God's people not to trust in being God's people, but him instead. As Jeremiah preaches outside the temple, he calls people to participate in loving the world, that is, truly worshiping God. It's a passage that reaches back to recall Shiloh, and forward, as Jesus takes it up in the temple. But how is it good news? In Jesus, religion is exposed as idolatry.

TITLE: MY BOOK: Our Favorite Scripture Passages
TEXT: Psalm 131
THEME: As pilgrims, our confidence to be the people of God in this world comes not from ourselves, but from Yahweh, the quiet center who is our constant source of hope and peace.
PURPOSE: To challenge hearers to internalize and find contentment in God's presence, whose faithful assurance gives freedom from relying on oneself and wielding control over ones circumstances.

TITLE: MY BOOK: Our Favorite Scripture Passages (Anne Hong)
TEXT: MARK 9:33-50
SYNOPSIS: The appreciating the intricacy of the word, the helpfulness of doing something practical to deal with our sin, seeing a picture of how gracious and patient Jesus is with us, even in the worst of our sin… How is that you envision Jesus interacting with you over the worst brokenness in your life, and how does Mark 9 speak into that? Some of us see Jesus as harsh, dismissive, punitive, unaware, uncaring, etc. What is it that God might be saying to you about how He wants to interact with us, particularly in the midst of our sin?
