A message examining the necessity of communication. Saying what we should but don't so that we don't say what we shouldn't. Talking about how God speaks to us. It's all love and gravy.

Closing Benediction

Current Series: The Character of a Disciple
Message: Self-Control
Text: John 5:1-15
Synopsis: Part of living life well is being able to distinguish between things we can control and things we cannot - and making peace with both. Self control, or self discipline, is the ability to take responsibility for our lives and things we can control. It seems in many cases, people try to control what is beyond their control while not controlling their inner worlds of which they do have control. For the disciple, self control is a necessary and vital part of character development, part of growing up as an adult person. In this story, Jesus initiates toward the man in the pool and provides healing, even while the man makes excuses for his plight. Even after his healing, the man is easy to pass blame off to Jesus. In the end, Jesus confronts him about his unwillingness to take responsibility for his own life.

We had a fire drill at the end of service when the fire alarm was triggered by accident. We got to practice evaculating the facilities as a group!

Pastor Kevin - bendiction

Current Series: The Character of a Disciple
Message: Desperately Broken
Text: Mark 5:24-34
Synopsis: Throughout the gospels, those to whom Jesus gives himself are the desperately broken. This is in comparison to those whom he does not: the self-righteous and unaffected who do not realize nor admit their need for him. This is one of the most overlooked, yet vital characteristics of a disciple: a movement of our hearts toward him in humility and desperation knowing we need him. Often times, we equate "faith" with knowing right information, but in this story and others like it, Jesus commends as real faith the desperate but intentionally outreached hand of the bleeding woman towards him. Sometimes in our desire to be like Jesus, we miss that the way to him is to be like the desperate and needy who fill the pages of the gospels - these are the ones who are healed, these are the ones who get Jesus himself.

Epic Church - Spiritual Gift Seminar

Gia & Erin Hamilton conducted the Spiritual Gift seminar today. We prepared ahead of time by getting others to fill out SG's surveys on what they believed were our SG's.

Here's the list of 19 SG's identified by Dr. Bobby Clinton at Fuller Seminar.

Part of the process was to identify and diagram our "Natural Abilities", "Acquired / learned" skills, and our perceived "Spiritual Gifts". This was Pastor Erin's example diagram.

After an awesome lunch provided by Epic Church, we continued to interact with one another on the SG's discovery process. Here's one of my fellow classmate sharing his diagram as we dialogue and prayed with each other.

Here's our list of top three SG's for the 35 folks who attended our seminar today.

Thanks to Gia and Erin for doing a great job of helping us discover / confirm our giftings.
