Golfing at Dad's Miller in Anaheim.

Rodney tees using DB's new driver.

DB tees with new driver.

Joe tees with his hybrid.

Eugene tees with DB's driver.

I did okay with driving, had some really nice shots but lost it on chipping and putting. I mostly double par'ed. We only played 8 holes before going to dinner.

DB's rantings

New Driver

Just got back from one of the local driving ranges. Gosh, I do love golf! I just bought a new TaylorMade driver so naturally I have to go try it out before I go golfing this Thursday. I've also started reading my new new golf book by Harvey Penick ("The Red Book"); lots of good insights there.

Golfer's Paradise

Bought another range card at Golfer's Paradise which means I get a discount on the "family size" bucket of balls. Tonight I practiced with all of my clubs starting with my pitching wedge up to my new driver. I saved the last 50 balls for that. I was kinda of afraid of not doing well after spending all that money on a new club. I didn't need to worry too much, my new club has a giant clubhead (440 cc) and I ended up hitting about 70% of my shots fairly straight with a few of them going all the way to end of the driving range (roughly 220 - 260 yards?). Now if I can only repeat that out in the REAL fairway, I've very happy. It is true, golf is as much a mental game as it is technical.

I finished up my practice with about 20 minutes on the putting greens. That was relatively painless until I realized I dropped my favorite Nike golf glove back at the driving range. Unfortunately, someone had found it and dropped it into one of those ashtray / urn thingee ... my favorite glove had a big ol' hole burnt into it! = (

replacement glove

On my way home, I stopped by Target to pick up a wedding card and GC for my friend's thing on Saturday. Before closing, I HAD TO run over to the sporting good section to pick up a replacement glove. I swear this golf thing is an "illness"!

Yesterday, I went on this big shopping spree ... (stress from work?). So I admit, I'm a big geek ... I love books (especially comics), Sci-Fi / Superheros, etc ..., so besides my new Taylormade driver, I got my fix of "graphic novels" (i.e. comics), a short haircut (just in time for summer), crepes & boba milk tea at Boba Joe's ('cause I wuz starving), and mess of supplies at Wal-Mart (and Father's Day Card and gift).

The day before (Sunday), I went with some friends after church to Best Buy (new dvd) and to Fry's Electronics (more dvds). I think I'm up to about 330 DVD tiles right now. Hope I get to watch them all before the technology becomes obsolete (i.e. VHS tapes).

I guess I should listen to Pastor Kevin and not cave in to the "More" Monster! But dang, "Smallville Season 4" was on sale for $27 bucks as well as "JLS Unlimited" for 6.95.

Afterwork tomorrow, I'm suppose to hook up with some friends to go see "Cars". Even Pastor Kevin recommended it as a movie that had "heart" or did he say, "it was the most human of all the Pixar movies".

Oh, well ... just my rantings!

Until the next postings,

Pastor Kevin's "Ranting"

Russ participates in Epic's version of "DEAL OR NO DEAL" hosted by James Y.

Pastor Kevin continue in sermon series, "Living Generously".

Today Pastor Kevin's message was titled, "Defeating the Monster called 'More' "

Scripture Reference: Genesis 1; Matt 6:24, 1st Timothy 6:6-10

We were created with desire - which means they were intended for good; but desires were also created to function with boundaries. We are to exercise self-control. So when are our desires holy verse hole-y? "How much is enough" In Matthew 6:24, Jesus implies that Money makes a good servant: We can buy groceries, clothing, books, and movie tickets with it. But the second thing he implies is that Money makes a terrible god. As a god, Money is demanding, conniving, and fickle. The Apostle Paul warns us of the "tyranny of the next thing", the monster callled "More". I this message, we will confront the More monster, and learn how to determine a Standard of Living: pay God, pay self, and then pay bills.

Closing worship set.
